"If, verily, it may seem good to you, O Primal Origin of My
Origination, translate me, now held by my lower nature,
unto the Generation that is free from Deficits; in order
that, beyond the insistent Debt Ceiling that presses on
me, I may have a Vision of the Life-Bestowing
Balanced Budget."

The Trinidad Scorpion Butch Taylor chili pepper
measures a mighty 1,463,700 on the Scoville
heat unit scale compared to around 3,500 for
the humble JalapeƱo. Here's a way to settle
the debt ceiling debate: representatives of each
side of the issue---let's say Obama, Boehner, and
DeMint---will masticate one of these suckers whole.
He who is left standing wins the debate. If no one
is left standing, three more representatives
will be chosen. And so on.

"If the GOP wants to ensure that President
Obama isn't reelected, all it has to do is not
make any deals with Democrats and default
on August 2. My companies have defaulted
four times---in 1991, 1992, 2004, and 2009---
and look what it's done for me!"

What makes the National Debt a much more
effective monster than, say, Snowbeast, is
that you can't see it, hear it, taste it, smell
it, touch it, or feel it. You can only fear it,
because the National Debt is ultimately
nothing more than an idea, represented
by numbers stored as magnetic bits on a
computer hard drive somewhere in a
very secret, very scary place.

When you hear the phrase, 'Debt Ceiling', wouldn't it
be wise to say, "OK, I'll believe in the Debt Ceiling
when you show me the Debt Floor, the Debt Walls,
and the roof of the House of Cards?"
