Interested in 9 11? Here's a Porsche 9 11 by Charles01

The internet is becoming good at hiding stuff.

"Call a friend ... and ask them to Google something at the same time as you.

"The results will be different."

(The dangers of the internet: Invisible sieve)

This is because:

When you type in your query, Google takes into account:

Your location.

Your past searches.

Other factors.

(The dangers of the internet: Invisible sieve)

So, you search for "Lockerbie"

Your friend gets information on Gary Lockerbie.

You get information on the Lockerbie Bomb.

Google personalises the results.

How easy is it to find information about 'Venice Florida and 9 11'?

Larry Page, the chief executive of Google, has said: "the ultimate search engine would understand exactly what you mean, and give back exactly what you want." (The dangers of the internet: Invisible sieve)

Or perhaps it gives back what Google allows you to see.

Amazon tries to predict what you will want to read.

Facebook 'updates' you on the friends that Facebook thinks you like best.

Eli Pariser, in The Filter Bubble: What the Internet is Hiding From You, wrote:

"My sense of unease crystallised when I noticed that my conservative friends had disappeared from my Facebook page."

Are all the Turks aware of the significance of their Foreign Minister being close pals with Hilary?

Now, imagine what Google or Facebook could do:

In Thailand, they could promote the views of Mr Thaksin, to certain key people.

In Malaysia, they could promote the views of Mr Anwar, to certain key people.

In the USA, they could promote the views of Mr Ron Paul, only to certain key people.

In India, they could hide David Headley's 'CIA links' from certain key people.

Your past searches are important.

Google will feed you sport, girls or betting, if that is what you want?

You've been warned!

You may be able to find information about Kasab, the alleged Mumbai attacker, being interrogated in jail by David Headley.

But what about when your neighbour searches for information about the Mumbai attacks of 2008?

"The internet is increasingly becoming an echo chamber in which websites tailor information according to the preferences they detect in each viewer.

"When some users search the word 'Egypt,' they may get the latest news about the revolution, others might only see search results about Egyptian vacations.

"The top 50 websites collect an average of 64 bits of personal information each time we visit—and then custom-design their sites to conform to our perceived preferences."

YouTube is now mainly commercial junk. The "YouTube HomePage does not promote Individual Videos." (Is The YouTube SEO Guy Smoking Crack?)

You try to watch a YouTube video which is 'non-commercial' and find that it buffers and buffers and buffers.

You switch to a YouTube video that is 'commercial' and find that it plays beautifully.

You Google 'CIA, Tunisia, voltairenet' and on the first page you find no mention of voltairenet's article on the CIA's role in the Tunisia coup.

You Google 'Tunisia revolt' and you are unlikely to find any mention of Soros or the CIA.

The CIA and its friends appear to be constructing a two tier internet.

Commercial stuff is in the top tier.

The rest is in the bottom tier and will be difficult to find and slow to upload.

At PCPRO, on 21 January 2011, the question is asked: Is the internet as we know it dead?

The answer involves:

"Websites and services that are willing to pay" being "thrust into the 'fast lane'".

"Those that don't" being "left fighting for scraps of bandwidth or even blocked outright."

According to Andrew Heaney, executive director of strategy and regulation at TalkTalk, Britain’s second biggest ISP:

"We have a .... differentiated network at all levels, with huge levels of widespread discrimination of traffic types..."

( Zen Internet doesn’t employ any traffic shaping across their network, and Zen has won the PC Pro Best Broadband ISP award for the past 7 years - Zen Internet)

Streaming video is the largest single category of internet traffic.

"Broadcasters willing to pay will be put into the 'fast lane'; those who don't will be left to fight their way through the regular internet traffic jams."

Anonymous brings our attention to: "Why does Google block "Bilderberg" from auto-complete?".

"I would like to know why Google blocks 'Bilderberg' from auto-complete when it has over 2 million search results. Could this have anything to do with Eric Schmidt, CEO of Google, reportedly being in attendance for the 2009 Bilderberg meeting?"

Website for this image

The much hated Google deserves to go bust.

Users visiting YouTube today will see a message telling them they MUST link their YouTube account with their Google account.

Here are typical comments from the public (YouTube wants you to link your Google account The Web Services ...):

1. "This is the most idiotic thing Google/YouTube ever did.

"Now, there are thousands of us that cannot access our YouTube accounts anymore.

"This is an absolute train wreck...

"Time for millions of users to leave google and go to another video hosting service like blip.tv

"Many of us are fed up with Google's privacy invasion and data mining, and have gone to Startpage Search Engine

"See you in Hell Google/YouTube."

2. "What a idiocy and arrogance!

"They do not allow direct access to our youtube accounts?!?

"This is playing with users patience...

"I hate it when someone else decides what is better for me...

"Google/youtube it is time to say goodbye."

3. "I am looking for an alternative.

"This is insulting to me... my account is years old.

"There is no need for Google to know what I do on YouTube aside from tracking my every move.

"Screw them."

~~

"The account linking blip comes in the wake of the site's redesigned user homepage, and coincides with the movement to boycott YouTube today in protest of the website's increasing commercialization." (Google Forces YouTube Account Linking‎)

Elina Ivanova

If you use Google, you may have noticed the increasing number of 'made for AdSense' sites.

These sites usually contain masses of adverts and zero original content.

Sometimes the content has been 'stolen' from YouTube.

If you use Google, you may have found that, for a variety of reasons, it takes longer and longer to find what you are looking for.

There is too much junk, produced by people manipulating Google's page-ranking systems.

On 1 January 2011, Vivek Wadhwa explained why we desperately need a new (and better) Google

Vivek asked his students at UC-Berkeley to research the work history of the founders of certain companies.

"But it turns out that you can't easily do such searches in Google any more.

"Google has become a jungle: a tropical paradise for spammers and marketers.

"Almost every search takes you to websites that want you to click on links that make them money, or to sponsored sites that make Google money.

"There's no way to do a meaningful chronological search.

"We ended up using instead a web-search tool called Blekko."

http://blekko.com/

With Blekko, if you are looking for information about swine flu, you can add /health to your query and search only the top 70 or so relevant health sites rather than tens of thousands spam sites.

If you are doing searches by date, add /date to the end of your query.

/people

/date

/blogs

/forums

/noporn

/image etc etc.

Google is like the manufacturer of a brand of spam.

At first the spam contains the very best pork.

Eventually it contains an awful lot of offal.

Marilyn Monroe.

We used Blekko to search 'Lockerbie Bomb' and got, in the top ten positions:

1. Pan Am Flight 103 - Wikipedia
2. Lockerbie plane bombing - UK news - guardian.co.uk
3. BBC NEWS - Lockerbie bombing - UK - Scotland - Timeline
4. Police relaunch Lockerbie bombing investigation - Telegraph
5. The CIA and the Lockerbie Bomb
6.
New forensic evidence could free Libyan convicted of Lockerbie bombing - Mail Online
7. David Cameron to meet with US senators over Lockerbie bombing - CSMonitor.com
8. Pan Am Flight 103 - Information from Answers.com
9.
Senators, Lockerbie bombing families to hold news conference - CNN.com Blogs - This Just In
10. Lockerbie Bomb - a deal being done - to prevent a successful appeal by Megrahi - aangirfan

We used Google to do the same search:

1. Pan Am Flight 103 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
2. Lockerbie - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
3. Lockerbie bomb 'was smuggled on in a suitcase' - This Britain, UK ...
4. BBC NEWS UK Scotland South of Scotland Lockerbie bomb ...
5. BBC NEWS UK Scotland Police review Lockerbie bomb case
6. US spies blamed Iran for Lockerbie bomb - Times Online
7. Images for lockerbie bomb
8. Bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 Over Lockerbie (About.com)
9. Another Lockerbie bomb is set to go off - The Daily Record ...
10. Lockerbie plane bombing UK news guardian.co.uk

NOTE that with Blekko, you get THREE entries that refer to FAKE evidence in the Lockerbie trial.

GOOGLE shows no such results.
